Navigating Business in an Era of Global Disruptions: Innovation, Resilience, and Sustainability

Overview:
The Tri-university annual conference is a joint initiative of Newcastle University Business School, Cardiff Business School, and School of Management of Xiamen University since 2015. The conference will run in person at Newcastle University Business School between 1-4 May. 2025. The objective of this conference is to provide a platform for research collaboration and strengthen interactions between the three participating institutions. In addition to presentation and discussion of research papers and projects, we will also explore further cooperation in teaching, learning, and administrative training in the future.
Topics:
In today’s volatile global landscape, businesses, governments, and organizations are continuously facing disruptions stemming from economic uncertainties, geopolitical conflicts, technological shifts, climate change, and societal transformations. These disruptions present both risks and opportunities, requiring business leaders, academics, and policymakers to rethink traditional strategies and embrace new paradigms. This year’s theme, "Navigating Business in an Era of Global Disruptions: Innovation, Resilience, and Sustainability" invites contributions that examine how organizations are reshaping their strategies, structures, and decision-making processes to thrive amid global challenges.
As a cross-discipline research collaboration platform, we welcome researchers including Ph. D. Candidates in the fields of management science, marketing, accounting and finance, business administration, tourism management and hospitality administration to participate this annual conference. We encourage the theoretical and empirical papers on topics including but not limited to:
1. Innovation: Adapting and Transforming in the Face of Change
Innovation is a crucial driver for organizations seeking to thrive in turbulent times. Whether through technological advancements, novel business models, or digital transformation, companies must leverage innovation to remain competitive and create value.

The role of AI, blockchain, and digitalization in business strategy
FinTech, cryptocurrencies, and the future of financial innovation
The impact of Industry 4.0 on supply chain management and operations
Emerging technologies and their influence on workforce productivity
Business model innovation in response to market disruptions
2. Resilience: Building Organizational and Financial Stability
Resilience refers to an organization’s ability to anticipate, absorb, and recover from unexpected shocks. Organizations that cultivate resilience can better withstand crises and adapt to shifting business environments.

Financial resilience and risk management in uncertain economic conditions
Crisis leadership and organizational adaptation strategies
Resilient supply chains: mitigating risks in global trade
The role of strategic agility in responding to competitive pressures
Human capital resilience: workforce well-being, diversity, and adaptability
3. Sustainability: A Long-Term Vision for Business and Society
The sustainability imperative is now a central concern for businesses worldwide. Companies are increasingly expected to adopt sustainable practices that align with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles while maintaining profitability.

The impact of ESG regulations and reporting standards on corporate strategies
Sustainable finance and responsible investing
Circular economy and green business models
Climate change mitigation strategies for businesses
Social entrepreneurship and stakeholder capitalism
Submission Guidelines
Abstracts (max. 300 words) should clearly outline the research question, methodology, key findings, and contributions.
Full papers (optional) should follow standard academic formatting (APA/Harvard style).
